Hi-Fi+ has teamed up with headphone grandmaster Sennheiser to give you the opportunity to win a HD 800 S. Building on the strengths of the original (and still extremely popular) HD 800, the HD 800 S reflects changes and developments in the headphone world in the last eight years. The new HD 800 S from Sennheiser includes greater connectivity, including XLR-4 balanced audio cables alongside the 6.3mm standard headphone jack, to better accommodate balanced headphone amplifiers that have appeared in recent years, such as Sennheiser’s own HDVD 800.
The HD 800 S differs from the HD 800 in its use of absorber technology pioneered in the Sennheiser IE 800. This preserves the audibility of very high frequency sounds by eliminating ‘masking’ effects, where the human ear struggles to hear higher frequencies when lower frequencies of a higher volume occur at the same time. By absorbing resonance, Sennheiser’s patented absorber technology prevents any unwanted peaks and allows all frequency components – even the nest nuances – in the music to become audible.
The HD 800 S doesn’t throw out any of the developments that makes the HD 800 so great. Both retain the 56mm diaphragm, uniquely angled for the best imagery. Sennheiser’s HD 800 S is one of the best headphones money can buy and is well worth the asking price. Of course, one lucky winner will also discover just how good these headphones are thanks to our outstanding competition prize.
What does the HD 800 S’ absorber technology eliminate?
A. ‘Gaussian Blur’ effects
B. ‘Layer’ effects
