JVC Debuts Full HD LCD Monitor Targeted Toward Digital SLR Users

JVC today announced it’s Xiview LT-42WX70 ($2400)—a slim, lightweight, 42”-class, high-performance HD LCD monitor that incorporates numerous design feature designed to help accurately reproduce “the colors, detail and texture of high resolution still photos made by digital SLR cameras.”

Unlike some competing monitors, the LT-42WZ70 provides five user selectable color spaces, some of which—by design—are wider than the HDTV standards. Color space options include:

  • Wide (the TV’s color space)
  • Normal (HDTV standard color space)
  • x.v.Color (xvYCC extended gamut)
  • sRGB (same primaries as HDTV)
  • Adobe RGB

According to JVC, both the sRGB and Adobe RGB color spaces are “exclusive for viewing digital still images.” JVC’s press release adds that, “the monitor encompasses 100 percent of the sRGB (which is equivalent to HDTV for video signals) color space and a coverage rate of 96 percent for Adobe RGB, allowing the LT-42WX70 to fully reproduce the deeper reds and bluish greens that are a characteristic of Adobe RGB color.”

Three other key features further enhance the LT-42WX70’s performance:

  •  A set of 52 on-screen picture quality adjustment parameters that “allow fine-tuning of colors, tint, gamma, and more, which can be memorized per source for future use.”
  •  JVC’s “Individual Gamma Adjust System,” and
  • JVC’s “GENESSA Picture Engine,” a 12-bit video processor that is said to produce “video images without blur, color bleed or noise for clear images with smooth movement.”

Because the GENESSA Picture Engines uses a 12-bit “Real Bit Driver,” the monitor up-converts both 8-bit HD or DVD signals and 10-bit Blu-ray signals to 12-bit Deep Color signal before processing takes place.

Apart from the high technology within, JVC also paid close attention to styling details on the new monitor, giving it a front bezel with a dark, leather-like finish said to reduce unwanted reflections, and a clean metallic silver rear panel “without any visible vents or assembly screws, making it ideal for setting where the rear of the set is visible.
